Mercedes Benz Slk Class 2012
Mercedes-Benz just unveiled its latest creation of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK. This will be the third generation SLK model with a retractable hard top to feature a with Magic Sky Control, which switches between light and dark transparency at the touch of a button.
The latest compact 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK roadster is produced on a new platform with fresh styling, where it takes design cues from the SLS AMG featuring a more upright grille in the front fascia. The wide radiator grille bears the Mercedes-Benz iconic symbol in a notable main position and exhibits a strongly contoured chromed fin at the front. Even the nose is less raked than other Mercedes-Benz’s, the total shape is more aerodynamic, and Mercedes has integrated a brand new transparent panel between the rear roll hoops that tilts to improve airflow and maintain minimum wind turbulence in the cabin.
“The new SLK embodies the role of the trend-setter like no other car”, says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “I am convinced that with its passionate design, its high-quality interior and its modesty at the fuel station it will continue to provide an enormous amount of fun on the road in future, too, consolidating its status as a cult roadster.”
As we mentioned early about the ingenious Magic Sky Control roof, it automatically adjusts the tinting levels of the glass panels to sunlight. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK comes with a choice of three variants of the lightweight-construction vario-roof for the new SLK: standard roof, optional panorama vario-roof with dark-tinted glass, and the panorama vario-roof with Magic Sky Control. It takes only a few seconds to transforms the roadster coupe with a “fixed” roof into the panorama vario-roof at the touch of a button.
Performance wise, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK will be powered by a direct-injection 3.5-liter V6 producing 302 horsepower. Mercedes-Benz claims that it can sprint from 0-60 mph in just 5.4 seconds, and while fuel consumption is estimated at 23 miles per gallon.
And later on, Mercedes Benz will be introducing the SLK250, which will be equipped with a four-cylinder engine developing 201 horsepower. The SLK250 will feature a six-speed manual transmission as standard to provide a 0-60 mph sprint time in about 6.5 seconds. Like usual, the naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8 SLK55 AMG will follow as well.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK will be launched later this month at its headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany in celebration of Mercedes-Benz’s 125th anniversary, and later will be showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Finally, the 2012 SLK-Class will hit U.S. showroom debut in summer 2011.
